License Requirements

Residents & Nonresidents: A hunting license and a Legacy permit or proof of exemption.

Public Lands

Seasons on public lands may vary from statewide seasons. Consult WMA regulations.

Dates & Open Areas

Nov. 8, 2008 - Feb. 15, 2009; statewide.

Daily Limit

10 daily, 20 in possession after first day.

Shooting Hours

Official sunrise to official sunset.

Legal Means of Taking

Shotgun (conventional or muzzleloading), archery equipment, legal raptors and as otherwise provided under General Hunting Regulations.

Pot Shooting

At no time may any quail or covey be shot while resting on the ground, commonly called "pot shooting."

Hunter Orange

When deer muzzleloader, deer gun, holiday antlerless deer gun (in open zones), elk gun (in open counties) and antelope (in open areas) seasons overlap with quail season, all quail hunters must conspicuously wear either a head covering or an outer garment above the waistline consisting of hunter orange.

PHEASANT Regulations

License Requirements

Residents & Nonresidents: A hunting license and a Legacy permit or proof of exemption.

The nonresident five-day hunting license is now valid for hunting pheasant.

Seasons on public lands may vary from statewide seasons. Consult WMA regulations.

Dates & Open Areas

Dec. 1, 2008 - Jan. 31, 2009.

Open areas include: Alfalfa, Beaver, Cimarron, Garfield, Grant, Harper, Kay, Major, Noble, Texas, Woods and Woodward counties; that portion of Osage county west of Hwy 18; and that portion of Blaine, Dewey, Ellis, Kingfisher and Logan counties north of Hwy 51.

Daily Limit

Cocks only: Two (2) daily, four (4) in possession after first day, six (6) in possession after second day.

Persons who hunt in two (2) states having separate daily limits may not exceed the largest number of birds that can legally be taken in one (1) of the states in which they take birds.

Legal Means of Taking

Shotgun (conventional or muzzleloading), archery equipment, legal raptors, hand-propelled missile, slingshot and as otherwise provided under General Hunting Regulations.

Identification

Evidence of sex, head or one (1) foot, must remain on the bird until it has reached its final destination.

Hunter Orange

When deer gun, holiday antlerless deer gun (in open zones) and antelope (in open areas) seasons overlap with pheasant season, all pheasant hunters must conspicuously wear either a head covering or an outer garment above the waistline consisting of hunter orange.
